The Downham Market & District Heritage Society welcomes new volunteers and members.
As well as running the Heritage Centre, volunteers from the Heritage Society are also active in many aspects of preserving and promoting local history.
For example we are involved in archives and collections of local things, public talks on aspects of local history, regular exhibitions in the library, contributions to the local paper, historical research, organised visits to sites of local historical interest and participation in local events; and we also keep an eye on local planning applications.
If you want to learn new skills or develop existing ones, meet new people and investigate the heritage of Downham Market and its surrounding area, there are many ways in which you can join in.
Every Tuesday morning during the centre opening times we have a working party operating to set up displays, catalogue recent acquisitions and carry out various other tasks to enable the smooth running of the society, the heritage centre and to maintain a social activity for our members.
Anyone who has an interest in local history and has a couple of hours to spare is welcome to join in this work. This will be particularly important when our projected move to the Old Fire Station has taken place.
